The American Gem Society (AGS) is one of the oldest and most respected jewelry associations in the world. It was founded in 1934 and requires its members to meet the most rigid requirements. AGS members are knowledgeable and credentialed experts in gems and jewelry. In fact, less than 5% of jewelers nationwide meet the standards for AGS membership.The AGS Standards for Membership:

- Integrity: Members must have an unquestioned integrity in the business

community and must operate in a way that enhances public confidence in

the jewelry industry.

- Education: Owners and employees are required to complete accredited or

graduate programs from the Gemlogical Institute of America (GIA).

- Stability: AGS members must be in business for a minimum of two years

and demonstrate financial stability.

- Ethics: Owners must be interested in conducting business in accordance

with the highest ethical standards.
